“Waldesrauschen” explores the principle of noise as a visual and conceptual category within the Polaroid series. The technical noise inherent in the photographic medium is here overlaid with the notion of acoustic natural noise. It does not refer to a disturbance in the classical sense, but rather to an ambivalent perception that straddles the line between image artifact and observation of nature.
The depicted winter landscape remains blurred and fragmented due to the material properties of the Polaroid image. This results not in a clear documentation of the location, but in a subjectively filtered visual situation that oscillates between memory and perception. The noise functions here as a connecting element between medial blurriness and the remembered experience of nature.
